The primary focus of Laura’s practice is the ever-changing character of Orkney’s unique natural environment, creating artworks through painting, drawing and more recently printmaking that evoke a sense of time, place and environment.
Laura observes, records and adopts a sense of the landscape through walking, gathering memories of location and place, absorbing elemental changes and minute detail. She is responsive to subtle qualities of light and movements within the landscape – birds, weather, vegetation – making her alert and sensitive to the lay of the land whether that be colour, texture and form, created and reworked by nature.
