TIME SPACE MONEY

Printmaking is slowly becoming a more permanent feature of my artistic practice.

In December 2021, I was awarded a bursary from a-n The Artists Information Company to further develop my knowledge and understanding of printmaking techniques. A chance to take TIME to learn, give SPACE to develop ideas and MONEY to travel to other Scottish Printmaking Workshops. This included a courses at Edinburgh Printmakers and Soulisquoy Printmakers, a visit to Highland Print Studio in Inverness and investing in being a full member at Soulisquoy Printmakers here in Orkney.

For me, one of the most valuable parts of this bursary has been getting out of my own studio and taking part in courses – sharing ideas, learning from others and developing new skills. Exploring how to use the equipment, understanding the inks, the materials and their properties.

Over the years, I have developed a distinctive link between drawing and painting within my work. Introducing printmaking has challenged and stimulated my exsisiting practice and resulted in finding new marks, Iines and textures that enable new approaches in response to the Orkney Landscape. The plan is to keep learning and developing my printmaking practice alongside my painting practice – I have only begun to scratch the surface!
