The striped fields are slowly disappearing in Orkney and the greens are fading slightly. New colours are starting to appear and the weather is thinking about turning. The light is less. And I love it!
It’s been a busy time in the studio preparing for what is next and keeping up with the day to day. Delivering workshops, planning for new ones, applying for opportunities, completing commissions, painting new work, developing printmaking skills, being filmed for TV, getting work ready for an exhibition and then thinking about the next one. And I’ve loved it!
Mussa (above) is a new work that will be heading to Browns Gallery in Inverness in October. It’s one of six that will be travelling. The exhibition will showcase a group of Orkney Artists. More details will be published soon – if you are in the area, it will be an exhibition not to be missed. Of course I am biased – but if you like Orkney and Islands and weather you will be sure to see something that you can relate to.
My walks over the summer have varied from coastal, to visiting new (Orkney) islands, walking new paths or making my own. The excitement of walking a new path and seeing and finding area of interest sticks in my mind and is stored until I need it. Watching the fields and the way the light passes over them and turns them golden has fascinated me. How they dance in the wind so graceful and calming.

It’s raining now, and the kids need their dinner. Hope you’ve had a good summer and are welcoming the changing of seasons as much as I do. And of course have found some things that you love too.

Good afternoon Laura, I love your paintings, are there any copies of “Ecstatics: A Language of Birds” available? Tony.
