Glimro, my latest collection of work will be exhibited at the Scottish Gallery in March (more details and invite to subscribers to follow later this week). This new body of work reflects walks, thoughout the seasons, around the coast of Orkneys mainland.
Over the years I have spend time circumnavigating the coast, collecting snippets along the way which has informed my studio practice, drawings and paintings and particularly my forthcoming exhibition. A change of scene was required to mark the end of the collection and starting new. So we (Keith and I) took ourselves up to Ward Hill in Orphir to see the islands from up high. What a view.
It was a crisp morning, the kind where the landscape was so sharp. Seeing the contours of hills in Scotland through the gaps of Hoy Hills was a treat. Our feet stayed dry due to the scattering of snow and we could have stayed wandering for hours. No need to say much more as the photos capture it perfectly!

This walk will most likely be my starting point for my next paintings – although it was interesting to see my interpretation of the Hoy Hills from a previous walk be brought to life by the snow covered hills – Murra (below) will be on display at The Scottish Gallery as part of Glimro.

Ward Hill Walk will give me something to think about while I spend time in Edinburgh next month. I do miss Orkney and walking when I am not home so always need to fuel up on the fresh air, light and openness. This was a good start. For those signed up to my workshop, I am really looking forward to meeting you and sharing creative ideas. If you would like to join the workshop please see booking details here.
Signing off for today, all the best from a blue sky, fluffy clouded Orkney.
