10 days, 10 artworks. Day two

I have chosen to look back through my archives to give a behind the scenes look at how my work has developed over the years.  Mostly unseen works stored away in my studio Plan Chest, these are works that will stay there for my reference.  Included will be a few paintings that I see as key pieces to my practice.

‘Kirkwall and Shapinsay Harbour’ 1999.  Acrylic, graphite, charcoal on card.

These two drawings are some of the very few I still have that were created in situ.  Painted while home in Orkney during holidays from Edinburgh College of Art, age 17.

I always knew I wanted my focus to be Orkney.  I was encouraged to practice my skills, visit places of interest and draw what I saw as a means to learn about materials and get to know a place.  I painted Edinburgh while I was there and Orkney while I was home.
