WALKS is a collection of new work with a focus on some of the places I (re)visited in Orkney during 2020. Throughout May paintings will be introduced, storied told and places of interest detailed.
I am a Drawer, Painter (and novice) Printmaker of Orkney Landscape. The primary focus of my practice has always been the everchanging character of Orkney’s unique environment. Creating artwork that evokes a sense of time, place and movement is my inspiration. I observe, record and gain a sense of the landscape through walking. I gather memories of location, absorb elemental changes and minute detail. Responsive to subtle qualities of light and movement within the landscape – birds, weather, vegetation. Alert and sensitive to the lay of the land, the colours, textures and forms, created and reworked by nature.
Ever since graduating, nearly twenty years ago, I have worked steadily and committedly to maintaining my practice with regular exhibitions both within and out with Orkney. My (home) Studio is based in Kirkwall where I draw and paint. Spending time at Soulisquoy Printmakers Studio, in Stromness contributes to developing new skills and techniques.
Exhibiting virtually is a new way of working for me. Of course, seeing artwork in person is the best way to view but given the restrictions we have found ourselves in this last year, my plans didn’t quite work out how they were meant to. Instead of keeping work to myself any longer, I thought it best to hang it on the walls of my studio, take images and try exhibiting using this as my Gallery.
The collection will be available to view online www.lauradrever.co.uk from 1st May 2021. If interested please keep an eye out for newsletter posts and tune into my social media. I will be posting T&C’s before the launch so you know what to expect.
There may be a possibility to view in person – depending on Covid restrictions. Please contact me directly for more info.
As always, I am looking forward to sharing my work with you on Saturday – hopefully see you there!
