Firstly, thank you for all of your support over the last few weeks since WALKS opened. The visits to my website were something else and the messages received have been very encouraging. As an artist is it always a bit daunting releasing your work into the world for folk to see – hours of work and personal thoughts.
Also, thank you to those that have taken the time to pop past the studio to see the exhibition in real life, for adhering to Covid Safety and making it safe and comfortable.
I would like to take this opportunity to share a few answers to questions I have been asked.
WALKS IS AN ONLINE EXHIBITION, CAN I COME AND SEE IT IN PERSON?
You are most welcome to pop along, however please contact me directly first to book. I am not here all the time due to other commitments. Masks must be worn and hand sanitiser will be provided. The doors will be open and everything is set up to make you feel safe. If you want to have a look through the window, you are also most welcome, if our (guard) dog barks, just ignore him!
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO HAVE AN ONLINE EXHIBITION?
Being an artist can be fairly isolating at times and this last year has only highlighted it even more. Cancelled workshops, missed opportunities and changes that were unplanned. It would have been easy just to wait it out until things got back to normal. Having been encouraged by family and friends, the idea of an online exhibition seemed like the next positive step.
ARE PRINTS OF YOUR WORK AVAILABLE?
No. I made a decision very early on in my career that all my PAINTINGS would be original. If you have a painting from me, it is yours, for your home only. If you see a reproduction of my work, you can be assured it wasn’t printed by me, nor did I give permission for it to happen. I like the idea of art being available to all, however I like the idea of artwork being original more. (This is personal preference and I absolutely respect others who think differently)
However, I have been learning the PRINTMAKING process which allows for Limited Edition prints. You can view one of these at The Old Library as part of the Soulisquoy Printmaking Exhibition. Also hanging in the exhibition is two of my original leather works.
